Takao Onsha (塔咖鷗音社)
The name “Takao (塔咖鷗)” is a homophonic reference to “Takao (打狗),” the old name of Kaohsiung. It brings to mind lighthouses, vibrant energy, and seagulls, capturing the spirit of a southern island.
Our members come from Kaohsiung and Tainan, brought together by our shared love for Okinawan music and culture. We often perform with the Okinawan Sanshin and Sanlele at various events, and we’re also actively involved in community outreach, hosting workshops to introduce the unique sounds of Okinawan instruments to more people.
In recent years, we’ve had the honor of being invited to perform at Okinawa’s Sanlele Day (サンレレの日). It’s truly a meaningful cultural and musical exchange for us.
IYASASA!
Music knows no borders, and instruments are how we express ourselves.
Over time, we’ve begun writing our own songs.
We still play the Okinawan Sanshin and Sanlele, but now we also sing in our mother tongue, telling our own stories and sharing our life experiences.
